Ships are also required to have fire extinguishers it would be a bit absurd to be flying around on giant tanks of explosive propellant without some form of fire suppression. Small ships can safely land on skids, but larger ships require dedicated landing gear. The game models them as landed in the desert if you don’t do the manual landing sequence you can see this when your fleet gets attacked by enemy aircraft or missiles. Personal design considerations: I test all ships if they can land or not, lore states all ships land when your fleet is stopped.
